One of the best ways to experience Hout Bay and see all of its marine life up close is to join us on our adventurous sea kayaking tour!
The tour is led by a local guide who resides in the old fishing village on the harbour. This tour is different from other kayaking tours because the guide provides unique insight into the local history and culture.
Here’s how your day will go:
We all meet at Ocean Safaris for introductions and a quick briefing on your itinerary for the tour. We walk over to Muriel’s Munchies where your kayaks, life jackets and paddles are assigned and we launch! After a 15-minute training session in the bay, we are ready to go.
We cross out of the Bay to view Chapman’s Peak from our front row seats in the sea. Approaching the manganese mine jetty we pass by the iconic blue leopard sitting high up on the rock keeping watch over the Bay.
Along the way we spot various types of marine and bird life. We may encounter dolphins, seals, sunfish, and the occasional penguin.
Paddling back into the Bay we enter the glowing green room and exit to view the seal sanctuary. There we see a small colony of protected seals sunning themselves. Paddling past the yachts and fishing boats we make our way under the blue bridge at the Yacht Club floating jetty. As you pull into the Yacht Club your guide will tell you all about an exciting and innovative recycling program that is cleaning up the harbour.
Finally, we paddle back down past the Yacht Club and disembark at Muriel’s.
A great finish to the kayaking tour is to have your guide take you for a picnic at a nearby local restaurant.
