- Description & Difficulty
One of the world’s most scenic drives lies below this trail that uncovers the diverse stories of Hout Bay’s heritage. The walk takes you via Hout Bay’s historic East forts to the remains of one of the Cape’s most remarkable early mining ventures. The manganese mines, first commercially mined in 1909, contain several shafts, some with dangerous drops. For thrill-seekers and lovers of dark damp places and head torches, aka spelunkers, there is an 84m-long shaft to explore. The Hoerikwaggo Hiking Trail along the Silvermine-Orange Kloof path, the Old Fisherman’s Path from Kalk Bay, and the Skyline Panorama track will reward you with unsurpassed views of the Peninsula.
